Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth.
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Whats the main point ? So am I not allowed to save money or is this alot deeper than trying to save up for a new car ?
Jesus is not telling us we cannot save our money in order to achieve or purchase certain things we may actually need. Sometimes you might really need a car, a new home, new clothes etc… However the point here in the context and the verse itself is to stop worrying about money. You dont have to go out and save up a fortune. In fact it probably wont happen anyways unless you have an incredible job and much college education or unless you have superb skills in a sport. The main point is to STOP WORRYING ABOUT YOUR MONEY.
God will provide for you, he will take care of you. But you also need to make logical choices with your money. You cant go out and blow it on big tvs and cars if you have a family and kids. You actually might need to save up money in order to take care of your family.
You might even have to skip the occasional tithing so that you can have enough to feed yourself and your family.
So stop worrying about your money, stop thinking that the goal is to have a lot of green paper. Jesus tells us we have all the riches in him, that no one can steal or break in. No one can take that from us. It will never go away. This is where we find contentment. This is where the Strength of God can shine.
Keep your focus on Jesus. Your actual Master. He said it himself… You cannot love one and love the other. You will eventually serve only one and despise the other. So then realize money is not your master. It never will be. Money comes and goes but Jesus will never forsake us.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?“
